No Fault Car Insurance in Hawaii

Hawaii is one of the few states where vehicles licensed to be driven on the highways are required to carry no fault insurance. No fault Hawaii car insurance means that no matter who is at fault you need to use your own personal injury protection if there is a car accident; you use your car insurance and you can’t sue the other party who was involved in the accident, and they can’t sue you.

Motorists in Hawaii are required to have the following insurance coverage:

  • A minimum of $10,000 personal injury protection is required, covering the policy holder as well as passengers, relatives living in the policyholder’s home and drivers authorized to drive the vehicle.
  • A minimum of $20,000/$40,000 bodily injury liability coverage is required to cover any other person involved in the accident who is not covered by your personal injury protection.
  • A minimum of $10,000 property damage liability coverage is required, covering damage to another person’s property caused by the insured vehicle.

Insurance protection for underinsured or uninsured vehicle accidents is optional in Hawaii. Your decision on the level of auto insurance coverage will be made easier if you do a little research into each of these insurance categories before you begin shopping for Hawaii car insurance. Discuss your needs with your agent or insurer to be sure that you have adequate insurance to protect your assets. It’s important to obtain several quotes, compare and assess them, and identify the policy that offers the best value before settling on an insurance provider.
